Adieu Angelina (Singer: Nana Mouskouri)
Adieu Angelina

For some reason this song is very haunting to me and makes me get full whenever I hear it . I was ten years old in 1968 , and back then my mom would occasionally hire a neighbor , a girl in her teens and maybe six or seven years older than me , to babysit my two little sisters . I won’t give her name , but she looked like the actress Francis Dee - or at least that’s what my mom thought . But I’ll tell you this - I had me one heavy crush on her ! Well , she got into all of that hippie stuff and ended up going out there to California , I think in about the year 1970 . But whenever I hear this song it makes me think of her . She’s still out there , somewhere in the world , I think .

You will not find a better delta bluesman than Johnny Shines. He had all of Robert Johnson's guitar licks from touring together in the 1930's along with an incomparable vocal quality. It's wonderful that he could bring his blues legacy to appreciative audiences worldwide for decades beyond their beginnings through tours and recordings.

Ahh, rare original version, recorded in 1964, not the same as the 1966 version. You have to listen carefully to notice the difference, especially the lyrics and the guitar bass runs between verses. I love this version, been searching for this for decades. Thanks for sharing. I knew Gord, corresponded with him when I was a teen learning folk guitar, mid 60s. With the exception of my mother, he was the most beautiful person I ever knew, 100% pure heart.

Travel over this country Buses, trains and planes And I'm on the road Back on the road again Tennessee to Georgia They all look the same Just a lotta little towns Each with a different name And the miles go past As we roll along And I miss my children And I'm so far from home Will it ever happen that I can settle down? And the miles go past As we go along It's a hard kinda life For a woman alone Just a-travelin' and a-singin' And the years have flown Gotta find me a man So I don't have to roam Gotta find me a man So I can stay at home And the miles go past As we roll along And I miss my children And I'm so far from home Will it ever happen when I can settle down? And the miles go past As we roll along It's a lonely little room Where I write this song Just a strange hotel room Where I don't belong I've got three kids a-waitin' For my comin' home I'll be home for a week And then a week be gone And the miles go past As we roll along And I miss my children And I'm so far from home Will it ever happen when I can settle down? And the miles go past As we roll along And the miles go past as we go along And the miles go past as we go along...

Many years ago, my friend and I went to Mariposa in Toronto. Ian and Sylvia were there. They weren’t famous yet, but they were really a highlight of the festival. Lightfoot was there, Joni Mitchell, and Joan Baez. I fell in love with Michael Coney. I remember it was the first time I flew in an airplane or stayed in a hotel without my parents. I felt so grown up. I was 17.
